Buying Replacement Windows
The following is an excerpt from my
"Confessions of a Remodeling Contractor" ebook.
There is no one “best” window, no matter what the salesperson tells you. Look around & buy the one you want
at your leisure, not at the pressure point of a sales persons’ pen & contract. Look at three different windows
before you decide which one is the best deal. Replacement windows will usually have a special feature that
interests you. Pick the one you want. Again, good contractors want you to be happy. They’ll work with
you for your business.
[ADSENSE_0000000126] Beware of add-on's. For example, at the last minute, contractors like to sell
you triple pane windows. I have never been convinced the manufacturers’ claims of energy savings are as high
as they say it is. Personally I wouldn’t spend any money on this item. It will take you several years to
recoup your money (if ever) on energy bills.
When shopping for a large remodel, room addition, or dormer, my advice stays the same. As I point out in the
“Getting the Lowest Estimate” you can search efficiently for the best price by seeing three contractors &
making sure you are receiving the same identical job from each.
It takes much more effort by the homeowner to select the right contractor & see the job through to a happy
ending. But if you ask the right questions and choose the contractor who you are most comfortable with and trust,
your chances of satisfaction will be much better.
