Remodeling Plans
Whether it is a bathroom plan, kitchen plan, basement plan, garage plan or room addition plan you are eventually going to need a detailed plan on a piece of
paper.
Every day there are a few thousand people searching the internet for floor plans and/or building plans. If you
are building a new house I understand the confusion. There are hundreds & hundreds of variations to consider
& trying to narrow it down to the one plan you like can be very difficult.
However, when remodeling, your floor plan choices are much more limited. The room size is usually
dictated by limited floor space so your layout options are narrowed considerably.
Most bathrooms are 5'X7' or a bit larger & many kitchens are not much larger. If you are building a one
room addition with three walls and a roof all your options are on the exterior: windows, doors etc & entrance
from the house into the new addition.
Building a two, three room or more addition requires a little more thought & planning but is really not a
difficult thing to do. If you have trouble there is always your friendly remodeling contractor to lean
on. Years of experience will permit him to give you plenty of good advice on your plan. Spending a large sum
of money with an architect is foolish & not at all necessary.
So why do I see hundreds, even thousands of people who want to remodel, looking for floor plans on the internet?
Some of them spending large sums of money for something they will never be able to use. Trying to find the
exact floor plan you want is like trying to find that elusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
The floor plans available are useless to be used as building plans (even the ones being sold as building
plans) & the layouts are unlikely to accommodate the shape of your home.
If you want a real good layout of your proposed addition I suggest you start looking to find it at your own
dining room table. Some graph paper, a ruler, a pencil & a little thought will produce nearly what you
want. You and any good contractor can finish it up.
