BasementRemodeling

Finished Basement"Basements are like garages. We keep a bunch of worthless junk warm, dry & clean for years. Then we throw it out"

I tell a story in my book "Confessions of s Home Remodeling Contractor" when I had a boyhood friend whose family lived in the basement of their two story house. The basement was equipped with a kitchen, bathroom & living room, all completely furnished. I suppose you could call it the epitome of basement remodeling,

The family ate, read, talked, listened to the radio etc every day. The first floor was exquisitely furnished & I doubt if anyone ever sat on the furniture. At bedtime everyone went up two flights of stairs to go to sleep.

I am not suggesting this lifestyle for you, but you may have a good reason to finish most of your basement for a variety of special places. Rec room, home office or apartment works pretty well. I have built some basement apartments that were very impressive when completed.

Whatever your choice it is a relatively inexpensive area to add living space. You can even add a bathroom or a kitchen if you know how. I'll tell you how it is done in the book. Not only that, I will show you how to hire a contractor at the lowest price available.

(If you are a do-it-yourselfer read this DIY Garage Conversions The same technique applies to both basement or garage.)

Try my e-book about the best way to plan & design a finished basement & then hire a contractor to finish the work at the lowest cost available.
